avenging force is a full-throttle three-piece rock band from liverpool who formed over a mutual obsession with the who's live at leeds. they play rock the way it was meant to be played: loud, hard, fast and sweaty. although there are echoes of big star, rocket from the tombs, goblin, the monks, lalo schifrin and santana in their music, the main influence is the mantra that pete townshend once believed in: power and volume.

recorded by steve albini in chicago this, their debut album, captures in brutal detail the band's ferocious, sometimes intricate, relentless riffs and hard rock. avenging force are not pissing about with irony, fashion or computers: this is a band committed to the riff, dedicated to the rock how it used to be made - when men were men and amps were amps, and drummers twatted their drums like their lives depended on it. and tigers roamed the streets on motorbikes.
